‘Sustainability’ and ‘green buildings’ are buzzwords among building operators and developers. The New Zealand Green Building Council is committed to the development of green building rating tools, so the property industry can apply to have their projects rated according to their building type, offering opportunities to market your Green Star projects and position them as green buildings.
They have recently announced the release of:
And three new PILOT tools:
- GREEN STAR NZ – OFFICE INTERIORS PILOT
- GREEN STAR NZ – EDUCATION PILOT
- GREEN STAR NZ – INDUSTRIAL PILOT
Under their Interiors tool, Indoor Environment Quality section, they encourage and recognise the installation of indoor plants that improve indoor environment quality.
One point is awarded where it is demonstrated that indoor plants are incorporated as part of the tenancy fit out and comply with the following requirements:
- A plant supply and maintenance contract is entered into (minimum 1 year) with a minimum plant density of 1no. 15cm diameter pot per 15sqm NLA. Note that feature planting to common areas and receptions is acceptable, but should not make up more than 40% of the total plants provided. The plants allocated to the working areas are to be distributed evenly throughout the working area.
- One extra point is awarded where 1no. 30cm diameter pot is provided per 15sqm of NLA.
- Note that a mixture of pot sizes can be used, so long as the minimum criteria are complied with.
